QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in the applied sciences, social sciences or relevant field. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and extensive experience in community policing may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Graduation from a certified police academy or other similar law enforcement training institution is required.

Work Experience: A minimum of five years (seven years in absence of advance university degree) of progressive responsible experience in law enforcement matters including community policing with a current rank of Chief Inspector or Major, other service equivalent or higher rank., is required. Experience in the use of modern Internet-based research methodologies and sources is required. Basic knowledge of the climate change and the security nexus is desirable. Peacekeeping or other international experience in the UN or other similar organizations is desirable. Peacekeeping or other international experience in the UN or other similar international organizations is desirable.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is highly desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Un diplôme universitaire de premier cycle, assorti de qualifications académiques pertinentes et d’une vaste expérience dans les questions de réforme des services chargés de l’application de la loi, y compris la planification stratégique ainsi que la lutte contre la criminalité grave et organisée, peut être accepté en lieu et place du diplôme universitaire avancé. L’obtention d’un diplôme d’une académie de police certifiée ou d’un établissement similaire de formation en application de la loi est obligatoire. Expérience professionnelle : Un minimum de sept (7) années (neuf [9] années en l’absence de diplôme supérieur) d’expérience progressive et responsable dans des domaines liés au développement de l’état de droit, y compris une expérience en matière de réforme de la police, de développement des services chargés de l’application de la loi et de renforcement des capacités, est requis. Trois années d’expérience en gestion et en élaboration de politiques sont également requises.

Grade : Le/la candidat(e) doit être en service actif et détenir au minimum le grade de commissaire (équivalent au grade de surintendant ou lieutenant-colonel), ou un grade supérieur. Une expérience dans les opérations de maintien de la paix ou dans d’autres organisations internationales similaires, y compris les Nations Unies, est requise. Une expérience dans l’utilisation de méthodologies et de sources modernes de recherche en ligne est souhaitée.

Langues : L’anglais et le français sont les langues de travail du Secrétariat de l’ONU. Pour le poste faisant l’objet du présent avis, la maîtrise de l’anglais (tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit) est exigée. La connaissance du français est hautement souhaitable.

Three-year experience of management and policy making is also required.
