The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) supported the work of the Interinstitutional Task Force on the National Strategy for Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration, and Reduction of Community Violence (SNDDR-RVC), focusing on the evaluation of activities carried out in 2025 and strategic planning for 2026.
This special meeting, held at the Kinam Hotel in Port‑au‑Prince, enabled Task Force members to review the past year’s activities, examine priorities for 2026, identify challenges and mitigation measures, and explore opportunities for collaboration with the media in the context of strategic communication.
It is important to recall that the Haitian context remains marked by a multidimensional crisis, combining political instability, institutional fragility, chronic poverty, and rising insecurity. In this complex environment, media and journalists play a key role in social stabilization. During the meeting, participants emphasized that the media can help to:
- Build positive perceptions within communities;
- Guide public debate towards violence prevention and reduction;
- Promote the peaceful transformation of conflicts and social cohesion.
In this perspective, discussions also highlighted the need to better understand journalists’ perceptions of the DDR-RVC, in order to strengthen their engagement and capacity to effectively support stabilization efforts and social cohesion in Haiti.
Through the SNDDR-RVC Task Force and alongside all partners committed to promoting security, peace, and social cohesion, BINUH continues to actively support the efforts of Haitian authorities to reduce community violence and sustainably strengthen the rule of law.
